Get to know a little bit more about the acts at this year’s Askern Music Festival…

The Pigeon Detectives

Formed in 2002 The Pigeon Detectives are Matt Bowman on lead vocals, Oliver Main and Ryan Wilson on guitars, Dave Best on Bass, and Jimmi Naylor on drums.  Friends from school and having known one another since they were 12, the band enjoyed a meteoric rise starting in Leeds where they signed with local label Dance to the radio, going on to sell over half a million records of their debut album ‘Wait for Me’.


The Jackobins

Formed in 2014, dubbed by Fred Perry Subculture and This Feeling as “Big in 2016”; The Jackobins have taken Liverpool’s and the U.K’s music scene by a storm, headlining and selling out prestigious venues such as Liverpool’s O2 Academy, EVAC, Magnet and Camden’s Barfly alongside smaller dates in Leeds, Manchester, Leicester, Sunderland, Stoke and Grimsby, whist completing their 40 date tour.

2015 saw the band supporting the likes of The Enemy, Reverend and The Makers and The Riffles whist appearing on Tramlines, Strawberry Fields, Northbound, X & Y, Party In The Pines, Liverpool Calling, Boondock, Blackthorn, FesEvol and events such as Soccer Six and Football Rocks.

Their latest single ‘One More Chance’ aired on BBC intro Merseyside, BBC 6 and Radio X , in the mean time it predecessor Waiting On The Sun’ gained the support of The View, Twisted Wheel, This Feeling and members of Hurts and Jake’s Bugg’s touring band.

The Jackobins have been featured in over 100 publications and blogs last year such as It’s All Indie, Louder Than War, GigSlutz, Candid Magazine, Von Pip’s Musical Express, Music Manual, Get Into This and Indiependant and many others and have already been confirmed for several festivals in 2016.

Ginger Tom

Fast-rising pop-rockers Ginger Tom will release their anthemic new single Thought You’d Won on Friday 15th April. The single is the title track from their third EP & showcases their infectious energy, choppy guitar riffs and pinpoint harmonies.

The boys draw on a range of punk & classic rock influences to craft songs chock full of hooks that join the dots between melodic pop & crunchy alternative rock. Originally formed as an acoustic duo in 2014, the band quickly expanded to a four piece & hit the road with a vengeance. They wowed audiences at Universities around the UK when they were hand-picked to join the prestigious Coffee House Sessions Tour last year & tour support slots with The Hoosiers, Marillion & The Pigeon Detectives have further swelled their growing fan base.

This summer has also seen them play on the main stage at the hugely popular Tramlines Festival in Sheffield. Radio has also been quick to spot their knack for earworms, with BBC Introducing spinning their tunes on numerous occasions & presenters from BBC Radio Sheffield praising their pop sensibilities & rock dynamics.


The Kavaliers

five piece rock n roll/Guitar rock band from Doncaster. Fresh northern sound with captivating riffs and melodies which you’ll go home singing.

The lads have been breaking records and creating a buzz at the biggest local venues as well as working hard on a brand new single, due out in July!

The Resistance

Martin Black

Martin Black shows what a heart-warming man he is by touching on every subject and leaving no stone un-turned in his search to become a working class hero. Armed with streets of punk and the folkie hunger for revolution, marrying the two distinctive genres by trying to turn folk on its ear and punk to its knees with his sharp lyricism and upbeat melodies, he’s on his way to becoming the man he set out to be. .


District are a small band based in Doncaster. They mainly perform rock but often vary their music. Phoebe, Billy, Josh, Erin and Rhys are the members of this young band from Askern.

Kiziah and the kings

K I Z I A H & THE K I N G S “Unique & completely fresh, hard to pinpoint a style as Kiziah oozes the sexy sass of the Jazz & Blues with a REGGAE vibe flowing. Soft rock & funk!

Martin Semple – Our Compere for the day

Martin Semple is a comedian and ex soldier with the Household Cavalry regiment; he has served as part of the horse guard for the opening of parliament and as part of a military tour of Afghanistan.

As a comedian Semple calls on many of his experiences as a soldier, drawing comic relief from some of the most high intensity situations of the recent Gulf conflict. His ability to turn potentially terrifying situations into hilarious material for his work as a comedian mark Martin Semple as a genuinely unique and hugely talented member of the stand-up comedy circuit.
